History

Khichdi with a sour accompaniment is an old Deccani breakfast; adding kheema made it a Hyderabadi weekend favourite.

Significance

Many Hyderabadi families cook khichdi-khatta-kheema on Sunday mornings, and it is a popular pre-dawn meal (sehri) in Ramzan.
