Why it is delayed
Environmental impact
Near the buffer zone of Ranthambore Tiger Reserve, a 12 km stretch was built as India's first wildlife corridor on a national highway, designed with the Wildlife Institute of India: five animal overpasses and a long underpass let tigers, leopards and bears cross safely, with noise barriers along the road. It opened in June 2025.
About the project
In July 2024 the Government told the Rajya Sabha that the 53 packages (1,386 km) would be finished by October 2025. In December 2025 the target moved to 2027-28; the Union Minister said this was about three years later than the original 2024 deadline. A Lok Sabha reply in December 2025 put spending at ₹71,718 crore. In March 2026 the Government counted 54 packages over 1,445 km (including spurs), of which 929 km was open to traffic; the Delhi–Vadodara section was due by June 2026 and three lagging Gujarat packages by March 2028. Targets announced only as a month or a year are shown as the last day of that month or year.
