Environmental impact

Dahanu taluka is a notified ecologically fragile area. To reduce harm, the port was moved 4–6 km out to sea, which also limited land acquisition to about 571 hectares for road and rail links. It received environmental and coastal (CRZ) clearance in February 2024 and a conditional no-objection from the Dahanu Taluka Environment Protection Authority, which set up monitoring and grievance committees. Local fishing communities oppose it, citing their fishing grounds, mangroves near the site and protected corals recorded in surveys.

About the project

The Union Cabinet approved the port on 19 June 2024 at ₹76,220 crore, including land, core infrastructure and terminals built through public-private partnership. The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone on 30 August 2024. Phase 1 is planned to be operational by 2030. Targets announced only as a month or a year are shown as the last day of that month or year.
