History

The Parsis came to India from Persia and many settled in Mumbai. Dhansak blends Persian-style meat and lentil cooking with Indian spices and Gujarati sweet-sour notes.

Significance

Dhansak is a Sunday lunch in many Parsi homes. By tradition it is usually not served at weddings or other auspicious occasions.
