Applied by system
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) was started on 16 May 2026 by Abhijeet Dipke, after a remark comparing unemployed youth to "cockroaches". It began as satire but drew huge numbers of young followers online and led protests over the NEET-UG paper leak allegations at Jantar Mantar. It is not registered as a political party with the Election Commission of India.
Arguments that it could be
- It speaks directly to young people on jobs, exams and paper leaks, issues many feel established parties have not solved.
- It mobilised large numbers quickly, online and on the street.
Arguments that it is not
- It is not a registered party, has no elected representatives and no organisation across States.
- Critics, including BJP leaders, call it a "B team" of other parties because of its founder's past work with the Aam Aadmi Party; its supporters reject this.
- Protest movements often fade without a long-term programme.
Questions to discuss
- Can a protest movement become a lasting party? What would it need?
- What should established opposition parties learn from it?
