A strong opposition is part of a healthy democracy. Within and outside the Congress, people debate whether the party would do better with a different leader as its main face.
Arguments for a new face
- Fresh leadership could attract voters who have not backed the party in recent national elections.
- It could signal internal democracy and open space for leaders from the States.
Arguments against
- Rahul Gandhi remains the party's best-known leader and has led its national campaigns and public outreach.
- Changing faces does not by itself fix organisation, policy or alliances.
Questions to discuss
- What makes an opposition effective: its leader, its organisation, its ideas, or its alliances?
- Should parties choose leaders through open internal elections?
Please argue about ideas and leadership, not personal attacks.
