Large businesses build factories, create jobs, pay taxes and bring investment and technology. At the same time, many citizens worry about crony capitalism, concentration of wealth, unpaid bank loans, pollution and working conditions.
Arguments that industrialists are essential
- Private investment creates most new jobs and drives exports.
- Large firms fund research, infrastructure and supply chains that small businesses depend on.
- Taxes paid by companies fund public services.
Concerns raised
- Close links between business and politics can lead to unfair advantages.
- Wealth concentration can reduce competition and raise prices.
