  3. Original target31 Dec 2030
Sanctioned: ₹76,220 cr———Dahanu taluka is a notified ecologically fragile area. To reduce harm, the port was moved 4–6 km out to sea, which also limited land acquisition to about 571 hectares for road and rail links. It received environmental and coastal (CRZ) clearance in February 2024 and a conditional no-objection from the Dahanu Taluka Environment Protection Authority, which set up monitoring and grievance committees. Local fishing communities oppose it, citing their fishing grounds, mangroves near the site and protected corals recorded in surveys.

Spent: ₹19,650 cr————The site needed the Ulwe river to be diverted, a hill to be levelled and mangroves on the site to be cleared. The environmental clearance (2010) came with 32 conditions, including compensatory mangrove planting (about 350 hectares at Dahanu); the Gadhi river was left untouched after the runway layout was changed. Environmentalists warned of flood risk in the low-lying area.

Atal Setu (Mumbai Trans Harbour Link)

All key dates

  1. Completed12 Jan 2024
Spent: ₹17,840 cr————The bridge crosses the Sewri mudflats, an Important Bird Area where flamingos feed. MMRDA did not accept the Bombay Natural History Society's request to shift the alignment, and instead used noise barriers, low-vibration drilling and warm, shielded lighting; officials reported that flamingos kept visiting during construction. Activists say the bird sanctuaries planned at nearby wetlands as part of the mitigation have not been set up.
